The Lignoboost Process

چکیده

A process for lignin removal from alkaline pulping liquors (black liquors) has been developed within the FRAM2 R&D Program (Future Resource Adapted Pulp Mill, part 2). The lignin product (Fig. 1) from a demonstration plant, owned and operated by Innventia (formerly STFI-Packforsk), was characterized and used in different combustion trials with good results – co-firing of lignin and bark in a fluidized bed boiler, co-firing with coal in a PFBC (Pressurized Fluidized Bed Combustion) boiler and firing of lignin in a fullscale lime kiln. The process development and operation of the demonstration plant has displayed good results. Runnability in the demonstration plant and the lignin quality have been both very good. The work done on the investment and operational costs showed great potential for improving the concept of economy, which is very promising.

Lignin Prepared by Ultrafiltration of Black Liquor: Investigation of Solubility, Viscosity, and Ash Content

Technical lignin, which can be potentially obtained in large amounts as a by-product from kraft pulping, represents a potential resource for manufacturing fuels and chemicals. Upgrading of lignin, by lowering its molecular weight, is a valuable alternative to precipitation from black liquor, which occurs in the Lignoboost process. The solubility properties of Lignoboost lignin and filtered lign...

Equilibrium of Lignin Precipitation

Lignin is possibly one new product from the paper pulp mill. Lignin of relatively high purity can be separated from black liquor by using the so called “LignoBoost” process. The first step of the LignoBoost process is the precipitation of lignin by lowering black liquor pH. The efficiency of this step depends on the properties of black liquor and the process conditions in the precipitation step...

Fast Pyrolysis of Lignins

Three lignins: Indulin AT, Lignoboost, and Acetocell lignin, were characterized and pyrolyzed in a continuous-fed fast pyrolysis process. The physical and chemical properties of the lignins included chemical composition, heat content, ash, and water content. The distributed activation energy model (DAEM) was used to describe the pyrolysis of each lignin. Activation energy distributions of each ...

Enzymatically and chemically oxidized lignin nanoparticles for biomaterial applications.

Cross-linked and decolorized lignin nanoparticles (LNPs) were prepared enzymatically and chemically from softwood Kraft lignin. Colloidal lignin particles (CLPs, ca. 200 nm) in a non-malodorous aqueous dispersion could be dried and redispersed in tetrahydrofuran (THF) or in water retaining their stability i.e. spherical shape and size. Two fungal laccases, Trametes hirsuta (ThL) and Melanocarpu...

Process Capability Studies in an Automated Flexible Assembly Process: A Case Study in an Automotive Industry

Statistical Process Control (SPC) methods can significantly increase organizational efficiency if appropriately used. The primary goal of process capability studies is to obtain critical information about processes to render them even more effective. This paper proposes a comprehensive framework for proper implementation of SPC studies, including the design of the sampling procedure and interva...
